 PolyMax PLA 3D Printing Filament

PolyMax™ is a family of advanced 3D printing filaments produced with Polymaker’s Nano-reinforcement technology, to deliver exceptional mechanical properties and printing quality. PolyMax™ PLA is an incredibly easy-to-print filament with improved mechanical properties, making it an excellent alternative to ABS.

Jam-Free™ - Jam-Free™ technology improves the heat stability of Polymaker’s PLA filaments with softening temperatures over 140 °C. As a result, Polymaker’s PLA filaments show minimal softening in the “cold end” and can melt rapidly once entering the heating zone, leading to excellent printing quality with zero risk of nozzle jams caused by heat creep.

Nano-reinforcement - Nano-reinforcement technology is applied to produce filaments with excellent mechanical properties and printing quality. It dramatically improves the toughness of the material by increasing its impact resistance.

Superior Toughness - Regular PLA is a very brittle material which greatly limits its range of applications. PolyMax™ PLA exhibits vastly superior impact strength with up to 20% improvement when compared to regular ABS and durability 5 times that of PolyLite™ PLA.

PolyMax PLA Filament

Derived from renewable resources such as corn starch and sugarcane, PLA is one of the most popular 3D Printing materials for prototypers, educators and hobbyists due to its low printing requirements and excellent dimensional stability at a low cost.

Regular PLA materials show excellent tensile strength but parts are relatively brittle. 3D printed parts can easily crack if dropped and fine structures can easily snap off limiting the applications they can be used for. PLA is already recognized as one of the most beginner friendly materials but with some 3D printers susceptible to heat creep, that reliable experience of PLA isn't shared by everyone. Polymaker Jam-Free TechnologyPolymakers patented Jam-Free™ technology dramatically improves the heat stability of their PLA filaments, by combining the latest development in biopolymer formulation and advanced polymer processing technologies. As a result, PolyMax™ PLA filament exhibits a high softening temperature of more than 140 °C, over 80 degrees higher than other PLA filaments currently on the market. So while printing, the filament will never soften in the “cold end” and can melt rapidly once entering the heating zone. This leads to extremely smooth printing and no more nozzle-jams caused by heat-creep!

Where is heat creep common?

  • 3D printers with cheap or older extruder designs.
  • 'Higher Temperature' or enclosed 3D Printers.
  • Dual Extrusion 3D Printers (as the filament sits idle for long periods of time)

Please note there can be many causes for why any filament may jam, including printing too close to the bed. Polymakers Jam-Free™ technology is designed to prevent jams caused by heat creep.  Jam-Free™ technology increases the softening temperature of the filament, not the heat resistance of printed parts. Parts printed in PolyMax™ PLA exhibit normal thermal properties and heat resistance.

Polymaker 3D Printing Filament

PolyMax™ PLA like all other Polymaker materials is manufactured using state-of-the-art polymer processing technologies and equipment. Polymakers rigorous minimum 8 quality control processes ensure industrial standards of reliability for a consistent customer experience.
Tolerance: Polymakers custom developed extrusion, control and monitoring solutions to ensure filament tolerance and roundness meet Polymakers strict quality standards.
Reliable Mechanical, Colouring & Printing Properties: Every batch of filament products are tested to ensure all quality specs (melt flow, softening point, mechanical, diameter, round-ness) are met.
Drying & Vacuum Sealing: Before packaging, all Polymaker filaments are dried to a moisture level of < 0.1% to ensure the best printing quality and are vacuum sealed to protect the filament from moisture. All vacuum packaged products are left for 24 hours before boxing to ensure they are leak-free.


Packaging

Transparent Spool: PolyMax™ PLA is wound on Polymakers 750g transparent spools. With the transparent spool, it is easy to see exactly how much filament is left for your next printing project.
Resealable Bag: PolyMax™ PLA is packaged in a vacuum sealed resealable bag to ensure your filament is moisture free. Like all other PLA filaments, PolyMax™ PLA is hygroscopic so we recommend using this bag for filament storage.

Storage & ​Drying

Before packaging, PolyMax™ PLA is dried to ensure the best printing quality and filaments are vacuum sealed to protect the filament from moisture. When not in use PolyMax™ PLA should be stored away from sunlight in the packaged resealable bag.

Moisture absorption in any 3D printing filament will lower the quality and the mechanical properties of the print. To eliminate the risk of moisture absorption over time,  it is best practice to print filaments from the PolyBox™ or dry cabinet to keep the filament at dry conditions (relative humidity of 15% or less).

If the filament does absorb moisture, spools of PolyMax™ PLA can be dried in a preheated convection oven at 80˚C for up to 8 hours. Results may vary depending on the accuracy of your oven so please be conservative. For more information about filament drying please read our user guide.

FAQ

Q: How does PolyMax™ PLA compare to other PLA materials?
A: Like Polymaker's other products, PolyMax™ PLA is designed specifically with 3D printing in mind. PolyMax™ PLA is manufactured with Polymaker's patented Jam-Free™ technology to prevent heat creep jamming and during R&D, significant time was spent optimizing the softening temperature, material flow and printing characteristics to ensure excellent results on a wide range of 3D printers. As part of the PolyMax™ family, PolyMax™ PLA is manufactured with Polymakers nano-rienforcement technology to significantly improve toughness and impact resistance when compared to regular PLA.

Q: Does Polymakers Nano-reinforcement technology impact printability?
A: The nano-reinforcement of PolyMax™ PLA is NOT a fiber reinforcement,  so customers can confidently print this material with a standard brass nozzle. The good mechanical strength of PolyMax™ PLA is achieved with no compromise in printing quality or usability.

Q: Does Jam-Free™ technology prevent all filament jamming?
A: Jam-Free™ technology is designed to prevent jamming caused by heat creep. There are many reasons why a material may jam, such as printing with the wrong extruder temperature or incorrect nozzle height; Polymaker's Jam-Free™ technology won't prevent jamming in these cases.

Q: Can PLA be printed at large scales without warping?
A: One of the benefits of PLA is the ability to print large parts with excellent dimensional stability; we have many customers printing large full-size printing projects in PolyMax™ PLA. Please note while PLA  materials don't warp in most situations, printing with poor first layer adhesion can cause any material to warp and printing or the heated bed too hot can cause any PLA filament to crystallize rapidly, creating internal stress and warping.

Q: What support materials can I use with this product?
A: If you are printing with multi-material capability, Polymaker’s PolyDissolve™ S1 or PolySupport™ filament are the recommended support filaments for PolyMax™ PLA. If your 3D printer is not equipped for multi-material, self-support can be used.
