Polymaker PC-PBT

Polymaker™ PC-PBT is a PC/PBT polymer blend which offers good heat resistance and toughness at low temperature (-20˚C/-30˚C). Polymaker™ PC-PBT also features good chemical resistance.


Low Temperature Impact Resistance - Polymaker™ PC-PBT has a high resistance to impact. It also features an excellent low temperature toughness keeping more than 70% of its impact resistance at -30˚C.

Heat Resistant - Polymaker™ PC-PBT is an excellent choice for heat resistant applications, offering better heat resistance than a range of other material types and withstanding temperatures up to 140 ºC.

Good Chemical Resistance - Polymaker™ PC-PBT is resistant to hydrocarbons, alcohols, organic acids, inorganic aqueous salts, and mild base and acid solutions. This makes them suitable for applications requiring resistance to intermittent contact with many lubricants, solvents, fuels, oils, cleaning agents, and other automotive-type chemicals.

Formulated For 3D Printing - Using Covestro’s Makroblend® family as its base material, Polymaker™ PC-PBT is specifically engineered for 3D printing to combine excellent mechanical properties and printing quality. Makroblend® is widely used in various industries. Enclosure and 100°C heated bed required; a heated chamber is highly recommended.

Polymaker™ PC-PBT is well suited for a wide range of industries requiring chemical resistance or good performance across a wide temperature range.. Polymaker™ PC-PBT uses Covestro’s Makroblend® family as its base material which is a commonly used plastic. Polymakers partnership with Covestro has brought new 3D printing filaments to the market by taking formulas that are already well known to industry professionals and optimizing them for 3D printing.

Compared to PC resins and PC-ABS compounds, PC-PBT has better resistance to chemicals, which enables printed applications where resistance to intermittent contact with fuels, oils, lubricants, cleaners is necessary.

Users with a dual extrusion 3D printer can print supports with Polymakers PolyDissolve™ S2. PolyDissolve™ S2 is a dedicated support material engineered to deliver water dissolvable supports with perfect interfacing and improved part surface quality. PolyDissolve™ S2 is compatible with a wide range of high temperature Polymaker filaments.

Polymaker 3D Printing Filament

Polymaker™ PC-PBT like all other Polymaker materials is manufactured using state-of-the-art polymer processing technologies and equipment. Polymakers rigorous minimum 8 quality control processes ensure industrial standards of reliability for a consistent customer experience.
Tolerance: Polymakers custom developed extrusion, control and monitoring solutions to ensure filament tolerance and roundness meet Polymakers strict quality standards.
Reliable Mechanical, Colouring & Printing Properties: Every batch of filament products are tested to ensure all quality specs (melt flow, softening point, mechanical, diameter, round-ness) are met.
Drying & Vacuum Sealing: Before packaging, all Polymaker filaments are dried to a moisture level of < 0.1% to ensure the best printing quality and are vacuum sealed to protect the filament from moisture. All vacuum packaged products are left for 24 hours before boxing to ensure they are leak-free.


Transparent Spool: Polymaker™ PC-PBT is wound on Polymakers 1kg transparent spools. With the transparent spool, it is easy to see exactly how much filament is left for your next printing project.
Resealable Bag: Polymaker™ PC-PBT is packaged in a vacuum sealed resealable bag to ensure your filament is moisture free. Like all other PC filaments, Polymaker™ PC-PBT is hygroscopic so we recommend using this bag for filament storage.

Storage & ​Drying

Before packaging, Polymaker™ PC-PBT is dried to ensure the best printing quality and filaments are vacuum sealed to protect the filament from moisture. When not in use Polymaker™ PC-PBT should be stored away from sunlight in the packaged resealable bag.

Like other PC filaments, Polymaker™ PC-PBT is susceptible to absorbing moisture from the air which can subsequently effect the quality and mechanical properties of the final prints. We recommend storing Polymaker™ PC-PBT in the PolyBox™ or a dry cabinet during printing to prevent moisture absorption which will lower the quality of the print. The PolyBox™ keeps the filament at dry conditions (relative humidity of 15% or less). 

If you hear popping sounds and notice that the surface quality of your print is uneven or the color is not consistent, this is a likely indicator that the filament has absorbed too much moisture. Spools of Polymaker™ PC-PBT can be dried in a preheated convection oven at 80˚C for up to 8 hours. Results may vary depending on the accuracy of your oven so please be conservative. Q: What chemicals does Polymaker™ PC-PBT resist?
A: Polymaker™ PC-PBT is resistant to hydrocarbons, alcohols, organic acids, inorganic aqueous salts, and mild base and acid solutions. Additional influence parameters of the chemical resistance properties of material are the: Composition of the surrounding media, temperature and duration of exposure. It is essential to test them under actual operating conditions first. Polymaker™ PC-PBT is NOT resistant to strong alkalis or chlorinated, aromatic, ketone- or ester-containing solvents.

Q: Polymaker manufacture many different PC filaments, which one should I purchase?
A: PolyLite™ PC and PolyMax™ PC are the best choices for users who are interested in 3D printing strong PolyCarbonate parts that don’t have a specialized requirement. These two materials are easier to print when compared to PC filaments from other brands. PolyLite™ PC offers transparency and the best value for general purpose printing and PolyMax™ PC is our most popular PC filament, with boosted toughness and additional benefits in printability. Aside from variances in price and mechanical performance, Polymaker™ PC-ABS, Polymaker™ PC-PBT and PolyMax™ PC-FR offer unique solutions for industrial applications, with excellent mechanical performance and slightly higher printing requirements. Polymaker™ PC-PBT for example offers excellent toughness at subzero temperatures whereas PolyMax™ PC-FR offers the best flame retardancy. Q: Is a heated chamber critical to print Polymaker™ PC-PBT?
A: Compared to PC and ABS filaments, PC-PBT has higher environmental temperature requirements. We have had success printing small parts without a heated chamber but certainly a heated chamber will be critical for many geometries.

Q: Can PC be printed at large scales without warping?
A: A stable high temperature environment is required to print larger PC-PBT parts without warping and whether a part is susceptible to warping will vary on how the residual stress releases within the parts geometry. Most users print PC-PBT with the heated bed set to 100˚C and an enclosed heated chamber to heat the surrounding environment; this effectively reduces internal stress which cause PC-PBT to warp or crack. To guarantee that PC-PBT can be printed at any size without warping, 3D printing with a professionally designed heated chamber is required.

Q: What support materials can I use with this product?
A:  Polymaker’s PolyDissolve™ S2 filament is the recommended support filament for Polymaker™ PC-PBT. If your 3D printer is not equipped for multi-material, self-support can be used.
