Polymaker PolyLite ASA 3d printer filament

PolyLite™ is a family of 3D printing filaments made with the best raw materials to deliver exceptional quality and reliability. PolyLite™ covers the most popular 3D printing materials to meet your everyday needs in design and prototyping. PolyLite™ ASA is an alternative to ABS with an improved weather resistance. Its UV resistance and excellent mechanical properties make it the perfect choice for real life applications.

Features

UV Resistant - With excellent weather resistance (UV, water and heat) PolyLite™ ASA is the ideal choice for printing parts that must survive in the harsh outdoors. Most plastics tend to become brittle and their colour turns yellow when exposed to UV radiation or sunshine but with PolyLite™ ASA the appearance and mechanical properties of your 3D prints are not influenced negatively by UV light.

Water Resistant - PolyLite™ ASA is resistant to Environmental Stress Cracking (ESC). This allows printed parts to face the outdoors, high humidity and rain over long periods of time.

ABS Alternative - PolyLite™ ASA performs better in both thermal and mechanical properties compared with general ABS filaments. It also features a Vicat softening temperature of 105℃ which slightly exceeds ABS.

Excellent Printing Quality - PolyLite™ ASA prints parts with a beautiful matte surface finish, suitable for printing production parts. Made with only the highest quality materials, PolyLite™ ASA delivers excellent printing quality and reliability.

Uncompromised Quality - With Polymaker's industry leading quality control process and rigorous in-house testing, you can rest assured that PolyLite™ ASA will produce beautiful, reliable and accurate printed parts.

Polymaker PolyLite ASA Filament

As a 3D printing material, ASA has become a popular choice for automotive prototypes, in construction, and household applications. PolyLite™ ASA is similar to ABS but with improved weather resistance. Its UV resistance and excellent mechanical properties make it the perfect choice for real-life applications or parts that will spend time outdoors

Polymaker PolyLite ASA

  • UV and weather resistant.
  • Resistant to environmental stress cracking.
  • Great toughness and heat resistance.
  • Excellent price when compared to other engineering plastics.

PolyLite™ ASA is most commonly used to produce of strong weather resistant parts for repair, engineering and research applications. Weather resistance can be broken down into 3 factors: UV resistance, water resistance and thermal stability of which ASA outperforms many other plastics.

With a heat resistance of up to 105˚C, PolyLite™ ASA can handle the temperature requirements for an extensive range of applications, offering a durable solution for product manufacturing. PolyLite™ ASA has better mechanical properties and is tougher than ABS and other brands of ASA filaments and is engineered to have the best in class melt index. PolyLite™ ASA filament can be extruded smoothly and easily.

Polymaker ASA 3D Printed Bridge
Matt Tyson from 3D Printing Solutions visiting the worlds 3d printed pedestrian footbridge with representatives from Polymaker, Shanghai Construction Group and Coin Robotics.

R&D for PolyLite ASA began when Polymaker developed and produced the 3D printing material for the world largest 3D printed pedestrian footbridge project. Shanghai Construction Group. invited Polymaker  to join this project from the very beginning to help develop a custom ASA 3D printing material for the bridge. During the whole processes, through plenty of tests and experiments, Polymaker has mastered the properties, compounding formulas and production techniques of ASA.

As a result, PolyLite™ ASA gains several advantages over other ASA filaments. Polymakers engineers have developed an ASA filament with exceptional interlayer adhesion. PolyLite™ ASA displays better layer-bonding performance than similar products.

Our precision testing equipment combines the latest advancements in technology to ensure they are ahead of the game.

Industry Leading Quality Control

Polymaker 3D Printing Filament

PolyLite™ ASA like all other Polymaker materials is manufactured using state-of-the-art polymer processing technologies and equipment. Polymakers rigorous minimum 8 quality control processes ensure industrial standards of reliability for a consistent customer experience.
Tolerance: Polymakers custom developed extrusion, control and monitoring solutions to ensure filament tolerance and roundness meet Polymakers strict quality standards.
Reliable Mechanical, Colouring & Printing Properties: Every batch of filament products are tested to ensure all quality specs (melt flow, softening point, mechanical, diameter, round-ness) are met.
Drying & Vacuum Sealing: Before packaging, all Polymaker filaments are dried to a moisture level of < 0.1% to ensure the best printing quality and are vacuum sealed to protect the filament from moisture. All vacuum packaged products are left for 24 hours before boxing to ensure they are leak-free.

Packaging

Transparent Spool: PolyLite™ ASA is wound on Polymakers 1kg transparent spools. With the transparent spool, it is easy to see exactly how much filament is left for your next printing project.
Resealable Bag: PolyLite™ ASA is packaged in a vacuum sealed resealable bag to ensure your filament is moisture free. Like all other ASA filaments, PolyLite™ ASA is mildly hygroscopic so we recommend using this bag for filament storage.

Printing Settings

Note: Based on 0.4 mm nozzle and Simplify 3D v.3.1. Printing conditions may vary with different printers and nozzle diameters

For other tips printing PolyLite™ ASA, click to read one of our user guides or contact us.

Storage & Drying: When not in use PolyLite™ ASA should be stored away from sunlight in the packaged resealable bag. If the filament does absorb moisture, spools can be dried in a preheated convection oven at 80˚C for up to 8 hours. Results may vary depending on the accuracy of your oven so please be conservative. For more information about filament drying please read our user guide.

Compatibility

PolyLite™ ASA has been engineered with compatibility in mind to print excellently on a wide range of professional 3D printers. This material requires a heated bed and we recommend printing with an enclosure or heated chamber for sizeable or thin models.

Of course with thousands of unique 3d printer models on the market, we can't guarantee each filament type will work with every 3D printer.

FAQ

Q: How does PolyLite™ ASA compare to ABS?
A: Like Polymaker's other products, PolyLite™ ASA is engineered specifically with 3D printing in mind. When compared to ABS, PolyLite™ ASA offers superior performance in almost all mechanical tests. Through their experience developing a series of ASA plastics for one of the worlds largest construction companies; Shanghai Construction Group, Polymaker has mastered the properties, compounding formulas and production techniques of ASA. As a result, PolyLite™ ASA gains several advantages over other ASA filaments:

Q: Can ASA be printed at large scales without warping?
A: A stable high temperature environment is required to print larger ASA parts without warping. Whether a part is susceptible to warping will vary on how the residual stress releases within the parts geometry. Most users print ASA with the heated bed set to 100˚C with an enclosure to passively heat the surrounding environment. This effectively reduces the internal stresses cause warping or cracking. To guarantee that ASA can be printed at any size without warping, 3D printing with a professionally designed heated chamber is required.

Q: What support materials can I use with this product?
A:  Polymaker’s PolyDissolve™ S2 filament is the recommended support filament for PolyLite™ ASA. If your 3D printer is not equipped for multi-material, self-support can be used.
