PVA is a water soluble support material that is compatible with many lower temperature model materials such as PLA and PETG. Because PVA is water soluble it is very office friendly, and is a great option for printing the most complex geometries in a prototyping environment.

Makerbot Method PLA is compatible with the MakerBot METHOD and METHOD X 3D Printer using the Support 2 extruder.

Makerbot Method PVA is a compatible support material for Makerbot Method PLA, Tough PLA, PETG and Nylon .


Storage & Drying

When the material is not stored in the material bay, store MakerBot Method PVA material in the included vacuum-sealed metalized polyester bag. This helps avoid moisture absorption from air and long-term exposure to humidity which can compromise material quality and performance. Make sure the built-in desiccant is in the spool to absorb any moisture exposure during the material loading process.

If you notice that the surface quality of your supports is uneven or the color is not consistent, this is a likely indicator that the filament has absorbed too much moisture. Spools of Makerbot Method PVA can be dried inside the Makerbot Method 3D printer.

FAQ

Q: How do I dissolve my supports?
A: Once your Method print is finished, you will need to dissolve the support material. PVA can be dissolved in tap water. Once the finished part is submerged in water, the PVA will begin dissolving. While an agitator is not required for PVA dissolution, it does accelerate the process and reduce the need for manual removal. If you wish to accelerate dissolution on prints with a large amount of support material, you can periodically remove softened PVA. Be careful not to manually remove PVA that supports a delicate part of the model, as this can damage the model material.

Q: How do I dispose of PVA supports.
A:  PVA is similar to school glue, and can be safely handled without protective equipment. Disposal regulations can vary, and MakerBot recommends that you consult local, state, and federal regulations before disposing of PVA-water solution.
