MakerBot Precision ASA is a weather-resistant alternative to ABS used widely for functional prototypes and end-use parts in demanding outdoor environments. ASA combines the qualities of ABS with the added benefit of UV resistance and additional moisture resistance making it ideal for equipment exposed to sunlight and rain over long periods of time – such as products for the agriculture, transportation, and power and utility industries.

This thermoplastic formulation has properties similar to MakerBot Real ABS, but with better UV and chemical resistance for retaining gloss, color, and mechanical properties when exposed to the elements. 

Printer Compatibility

Makerbot METHOD X ASA is compatible with the MakerBot METHOD X 3D Printer using the Model 1XA extruder.

Storage & Drying

Makerbot METHOD X ASA is vacuum sealed to protect the filament from moisture. When not in use METHOD X ASA should be stored away from sunlight in the packaged resealable bag. To maintain the best performance, it is recommended to store METHOD X ASA in dry conditions (relative humidity of 15% or less). 

If you notice that the surface quality of your supports is uneven or the color is not consistent, this is a likely indicator that the filament has absorbed too much moisture. Spools of Makerbot METHOD X ASA can be dried inside the Makerbot Method X 3D printer.
