ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) is one of the most popular materials for injection molded consumer products due to its clean surface finish, durability, and heat resistance. For this reason, it is often used for prototyping consumer products that will later be injection molded. METHOD X can print manufacturing-grade ABS without warping and without weakening additives thanks to its 100°C heated chamber.
By using ABS, the prototype is more likely to look, feel, and perform like the final product. ABS’s durability and high heat deflection temperature also makes it a good material for use in the lab or on the factory floor.
Makerbot METHOD X ABS is compatible with the MakerBot METHOD X 3D Printer using the Model 1XA extruder.
Storage & Drying
Makerbot METHOD X ABS is vacuum sealed to protect the filament from moisture. When not in use METHOD X ABS should be stored away from sunlight in the packaged resealable bag. To maintain the best performance, it is recommended to store METHOD X ABS in dry conditions (relative humidity of 15% or less).
If you notice that the surface quality of your supports is uneven or the color is not consistent, this is a likely indicator that the filament has absorbed too much moisture. Spools of Makerbot METHOD X ABS can be dried inside the Makerbot Method X 3D printer.
