MAGIGOO PC is designed to work exclusively with polycarbonate type filaments. This adhesive for professional use makes sure prints stick firmly when the print-bed is hot and that the part is easy to remove once it cools. This unique and innovative mechanism means that no tools are needed to remove prints from the bed. They just pop off when the bed cools down.
The strength and toughness of PC make it an ideal FDM material for the production of functional prototypes as well as end use part, nonetheless the material does present some printing challenges. Virgin PC has a high glass transition temperature (Tg) and thus can be used in high temperature applications. However, having a high Tg can make it very difficult to print using desktop printers, as these are usually not equipped to cater for the high printing temperatures required to print virgin PC. Virgin PC in fact tends to warp considerably when printed at an insufficient bed temperature (<130 ºC), in non-heated enclosed chambers without the use of an appropriate bed adhesive. Certain manufacturers have improved the printability of PC by the use of plasticizers or blending with other materials. Nonetheless when using these solutions some difficulties are still encountered, firstly with adhesion especially on larger parts still can be an issue. In addition to this some bed adhesion sheets have been proposed to avoid the warp encountered in larger prints, but in this case there is a high tendency that the adhesion sheet being used fuses irreversibly to the print. This means that the expensive sheet needs to be removed very often and also incurs a lot of post processing and cleaning.
Magigoo PC can be used on glass or multiple other surfaces. Use on other plastic based surfaces, including sheets is recommended to provide strong adhesion and preventing the part to fuse to the sheet.
Using this product with other than PC type filaments might cause over adhesion and damage your build surface.
The applicator has an active spring valve, which activates when applicator is pressed against the build plate. Please do not press the bottle as "ketchup bottle" , otherwise the applicator may pop off. Bottle may be slightly squeezed, only when the nib is pressed against the bed and it may be necessary only if bigger flow is required. Bottle must not be squeezed when cap is off any other time as it may result in glue popping out of the bottle.
How to use
MAGIGOO PC has been designed and tested to work with different PC filament brands. As the composition of each plastic is a little different, the ideal settings for MAGIGOO PC may vary.
- Shake the bottle.
- Apply to the desired area by pressing the nib on the bed (activating the inner valve) and spreading as needed.
- Print according to the filament/printer manufacturers recommendations.
- Allow to cool and Remove. The print should pop right off.*
- Clean - Use a damp cloth to wipe off.
In cases of excess adhesion, it is recommended to wet print bed with a small amount of water slowly work it below the part, this should make part removal easier. If your prints are not self releasing after the bed cools, increasing the z offset (nozzle gap) may be required.
MAGIGOO PC is best stored upright, with the cap closed and away from direct sunlight.
Q: How do I apply Magigoo?
A: It is best to apply Magigoo when the printing bed is cool. Before applying, shake the Magigoo pen like you mean it, press down the nib on the printing bed for Magigoo to flow. Spread more or less evenly on the printing area. It is enough to cover your active print area with an even thin layer. DO NOT SQUEEZE the bottle to avoid applicator popping off. Applicator has a valve which is activated once you push on it.
Q: Do I need to apply Magigoo everytime?
A: For good and reliable adhesion we recommend to apply Magigoo every time.
Q: How do I clean my bed after using Magigoo?
A: After your prints have finished and popped off, clean the printing bed by wiping with a damp cloth. Yes, just water is enough.
Q: How long will Magigoo last for?
A: One Magigoo 50ml pen is good for on average 100 prints. There is no firm best before date as it will vary depending on use and storing conditions - Once opened, we recommend to use it in a couple of months.
Q: Will Magigoo work with my existing printing surface?
A: Magigoo was originally formulated with borosilicate glass surfaces in mind however we have also had good success applying Magigoo to surfaces like Buildtak, in these cases Magigoo can work as a release agent for materials which can over-adhere.
