3D printing is used in the moulding and casting industry to create create a master for moulding or even the final moulds for vacuum forming or casting.3D printing is also used by the investment casting industry. Traditionally investment casting utilizes injection moulded wax patterns which are burnt away to cast high quality metal alloy parts. 3D Printers eliminate the need for tooling, significantly reducing investment cost and lead time. Compared to traditional lost wax casting, With 3D printers designers can design very complex components which would be difficult to injection mould.
By 3D printing, small-volume production of metal parts becomes viable, while complex metal parts can be produced faster and cheaper.
