Two days ago Tiertime (the manufacturers of the UP! brand) begun teasing with the next installment of the popular 3D Printer, the UP Mini. Today we got our first look at the brand new UP Mini 2 which was announced last night at CES 2016 in Las Vegas!
The UP Mini 2 now includes some features from the UP Plus 2 and UP Box whilst introducing some cool functions to the UP Brand.
- The UP Mini 2 now has a built in HEPA Filter, a component first introduced last year with the UP Box, the HEPA Filter reduces 3D Printing air emissions and provides a healthy and safe 3D Printing environment, a feature popular among our education customers.
- The UP Mini 2 now supports WIFI. A feature which Tiertime says will enable customers better user control of the 3D Printer with mobile apps. The UP Mini 2 still has USB connectivity which is great news for customers who may not be interested in using WIFI.
Whilst we are not sure on the full details of the Wifi integration, typically WIFI opens access to multiple users, a feature we think could be welcomed in multi user environments if integrated.
- The UP Mini 2 has touch screen control, which will provide a better user experience.
- There is an aluminum handle and separate spool container with a built in tool box, making the UP Mini 2 easy to carry and handle.
In addition to these major upgrades, the UP Mini 2 can now print up to 0.15mm layer resolution, matching the UP Plus 2. For reference the first generation UP Mini has a print resolution of up to 0.20mm. Tiertime have stated in the specs that the UP Mini 2 also has automatic nozzle height detection and software assisted leveling which will simplify user maintenance.
The UP Mini 2 comes with a brand new look and includes internal LED lighting to easily monitor the printing process.
“UP mini 2 has the latest features available on 3D printing market, and it has also fine tuned those features to provide the best 3D printing experience. UP mini 2 is a consumer-oriented 3D printer for students at schools, kids at home and 3D printing fans around the world. We have given much thought about intuitive user interfaces to create more consumer friendly 3D printing environment.” - Tiertime’s CEO, Dr. Allen Guo.
Tiertime haven't announced a price or an exact release date, but they say that the UP Mini 2 will be released early in the second quarter of 2016.
